People often ask me, “What actually is Reiki?”
And while there is research out there on energy healing, I’ve found that the deepest understanding comes from experiencing Reiki for yourself and the way it softens the body, steadies the mind, and helps you reconnect yourself.

My own Reiki journey began over twenty years ago when a friend offered me some healing. Reiki wasn't nearly as mainstream as it is today and I was curious but definitely a little skeptical.
My first session was quietly transformative. It helped release emotions I’d held onto for years and eased physical tension I didn’t even realise I was carrying. I decided to attend a Level 1 attunement and began to self heal, allowing a new layer of peace to accompany me in meditation.
As the years passed, Reiki became a mainstay. I used healing when I couldn't sleep, through my pregnancy and trained as a practitioner. Eventually, I became a Reiki Master/Teacher and saw the same shifts in others. The softening. and the clarity. The return to themselves.
Understanding Reiki
Reiki is based on the idea that all living beings have a natural life force energy — often called Ki, Chi, or Prana.
When this energy flows smoothly, we tend to feel well, balanced, and resilient. When life feels overwhelming - through stress, illness, trauma, or emotional strain - that flow can become disrupted. During a treatment, your system is supported to:
release stuck or stagnant energy
rebalance your natural flow
restore harmony on emotional, physical, and energetic levels
Reiki helps your body shift out of fight-or-flight and into a calmer, more restorative state which accelerates healing and deep rest.
What to Expect in a Reiki Session
A Reiki session is gentle, calming, and safe. There is no pressure to feel any particular way — each experience is unique.
Reiki is suitable for nearly everyone, including children, pregnant women, those recovering from illness, individuals dealing with emotional strain, and even pets.
Here’s what typically happens:
• The setting
A quiet, peaceful room with soft lighting and music. You stay fully clothed and lie on a massage table (or sit if that’s more comfortable).
• The session length
Most sessions last 45–90 minutes.
• The technique
I may place my hands lightly on or just above the body, or work entirely in your energy field if you prefer no touch.
• Before the session
We’ll talk about how you’re feeling — physically, emotionally, and energetically — and any intentions you may have.
• During the session
You might feel warmth, tingling, pulsing, or nothing at all — and all of it is perfectly normal. Many people drift in and out of sleep as their nervous system finally relaxes.
• After the session
We’ll gently check in about your experience. Most people describe feeling calm, clearer, lighter, or simply more themselves.
Reiki as a Supportive, Complementary Therapy
Reiki is not a replacement for medical care, but it can sit beautifully alongside it. It invites your body back into balance and supports your natural healing processes. Rather than offering a quick fix, it supports you to become an active participant in your wellbeing.
Many people find that regular Reiki sessions help them:
sleep better
manage stress or anxiety
move through emotional blocks
reduce inflammation or pain
strengthen their intuition
feel more centred and grounded
For those living with chronic conditions or navigating difficult, tender seasons of life, Reiki can provide comfort, steadiness, and a sense of inner peace, even when life feels uncertain.
Some people feel shifts immediately. Others notice changes more subtly — like feeling calmer, clearer, or more present over the following days. Reiki works gently, addressing the root causes of imbalance rather than only the symptoms.
Ready to Experience Reiki?
If you’ve been wondering about Reiki, or you feel a quiet pull toward it, I encourage you to explore it with an open heart. You might be surprised by how deeply supportive this practice can be — especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply ready for a softer way of being.
Reiki has been a steady companion in my own healing over the last two decades. If it’s calling to you, it may become one for you too.
Reiki Training
Over time, many clients feel a natural pull toward learning Reiki themselves — often beginning with self-healing. Reiki training is gentle, grounding, and empowering, and it can become a beautiful part of your personal wellbeing practice.
As a Reiki Master/Teacher, I offer training for those who are curious, sensitive, or simply looking for a deeper connection with themselves and their inner calm. If this is something you’re feeling drawn to, you’re welcome to reach out and explore it further.
